The Terang teenager wants to make the Australian team for the International Clay Target Shooting Federation World English Sporting Championships in July.

Molan, 15, won gold at world level on home soil in March this year, securing the down-the-line under 21 title.

“I’ve had a pretty good year in 2018, I won the under 21 junior world title and came eighth in the open for worlds as well,” he said.

“I ended up being the only junior under 21 to place in the top 20 in the world.”

Molan, who was recently crowned Corangamite Junior Sportstar of the Year, said the Australian titles in Queensland in April were crucial to his chances of booking a ticket to the United Kingdom.

The Noorat Gun Club member said the top-three Australian under 21 shooters would be picked.

“From here on to April next year I’ve just got to put in a lot of time and practice to get where I want to be,” he said.

Molan credits his parents Sharon and Chris, who got him into the sport aged 12, and Noorat Gun Club secretary Gary Hayden for helping him master the down-the-line discipline.

He said reaction time was a skill which helped him produce his career-best 380 targets in a row.

“I shot it over two days at a New South Wales state championships and it just took a lot of concentration and you had to keep your mind on what you’re doing,” he said.
