AN experienced trio helped an undermanned Warrnambool Mermaids put up a strong fight in their final Country Basketball League round before the Christmas break.
Current Big V players Abbey Sutherland (21 points) and Amy Wormald (15) joined ex-Big V guard Renee Tuck (16) in the six-player squad against Millicent Magic on Saturday night.
The Mermaids, who are still chasing their first win, fell 81-71.
Warrnambool Seahawks also remained winless after suffering a humbling 104-61 defeat to Hamilton Hurricanes on Sunday.
Edward Mirindi dropped 30 points for the Hurricanes in the rout.
Adam Lawson (13 points) was the only Seahawk to reach double figures.
Hamilton’s win followed a 98-52 loss to Mount Gambier Lakers on Saturday night.
