WARRNAMBOOL cyclist Eddie Worrall is proving he can mix it with the best on the road and on the track.
The Emmanuel College student, who represented Victoria at the Australian Junior Road Race Championships in September, scored the best result of his fledgling track career on Saturday.
Worrall, 14, finished second in the Austral Wheel Race under 17 male section at Melbourne Arena.
“It’s a pretty prestigious race, so it was good to perform pretty well,” he said.
He finished top-six in the handicap qualifying race and started off a handicap of 120 metres in the final.
“I was off the same mark (in both races) but instead of 16 riders there were 24,” Worrall said.
“I was midfield and had riders I could chase down. With one lap to go, one rider broke away and I tried to chase him.
“I got second and couldn’t believe it. Even to make the final was awesome, my main goal was to make the final.”
Worrall, who also competed in some novelty scratch rides on the Austral Wheel Race program, will travel to Bendigo for its Christmas track carnival.
