The south-west-based driver, who made it back-to-back wins at the Allansford track on Saturday night, is bullish about his chances in the WSS rounds on December 29 and New Year’s Day.
“This is one of the best tracks in the country so I reckon the more racing here the better,” he said post-race.
“For me, it’s close, so I enjoy it.”
Murcott will take enviable form at his new home track into the WSS campaign after winning the Victorian title in November and Max’s Race on Saturday night.
“There’s a lot of big ones coming up so hopefully we can carry on the form,” he said.
“We haven’t raced since we last raced here three or four weeks ago, so I’ve had a bit of a break.
“It might be working for me, I’m fresh.”
Max’s Race – a feature which honours Australian sprintcar legend Max Dumesny – finished before darkness set in, with Murcott saluting in the 35-lap feature at 9.20pm.
Murcott held off Warrnambool duo James McFadden and Jamie Veal in a non-stop A-Main which was completed in under eight minutes.
“It’s good it’s nice and early, it should be like this all the time I think – it’s usually past my bedtime really,” he joked.
Murcott came from eighth to win. He took the lead with 24 laps to run.
McFadden rode the high line to snatch the lead with seven laps remaining. But he clipped the wall on turn two with four to run, enabling Murcott to regain the advantage.
“The track was a little tricky but I think that made for a good race,” he said.
“Everybody was running all over the track, there wasn’t just one line and it was actually a lot of fun.
“It is all a bit of a guessing game. We were lucky to get back past him (McFadden), he’s a good competitor.”
