Portland police Sergeant Andrew Dunlop said a utility and a Nissan Maxima were waiting to enter the roundabout at Percy Street and Tyers Street about 11.40am on Saturday.
“A Land Cruiser utility has come from behind and failed to break quick enough,” he said.
“The vehicle has rear ended the Nissan Maxima which was then pushed into the back of the first utility.
“The incident occurred directly in front of the Portland fire station and caused a bit of traffic chaos for about half-an-hour. The cars were blocking the roundabout, so there were a few cars banked up until the vehicles were able to be moved.”
Sergeant Dunlop said the two utilities suffered minor damage. The Nissan Maxima was towed from the scene.
A female aged in her 60s was taken to Portland Hospital with minor injuries. She was released a short time later.
Sergeant Dunlop said the offending male driver, aged in his early 20s, was issued with an infringement notice for failing to drive with sufficient distance behind a vehicle.
He said all three drivers were locals.
