Momentum Fitness’ Deejay McLean, Shani Russell, Andy Sloetjes and Christopher Erry will compete in Carrum Downs.
McLean, 35, said they would challenge themselves in three disciplines – squats, benchpress and deadlift.
“In the gym I do 180kg squats, a 145kg benchpress and a 240kg deadlift,” he said.
“If I can better any of them I’d be happy.”
McLean started powerlifting this year.
The diesel mechanic said it was helpful having supportive gym mates like Russell, Sloetjes and Erry with him.
He expects them to perform well on Sunday.
“Everyone is a good chance to break one of their records at least,” McLean said.
McLean said the key to powerlifting was building up weights steadily.
He said a balanced diet also helped.
