Despite the Bureau of Meteorology predicting more than 20 millimetres of rain, intermittent showers meant punters on the hill could continue to enjoy both on and off-field activities.
Warrnambool Racing Club chief Peter Downs said attendance numbers were around 1200 with marquee bookings higher than in previous years.
“On paper people really love the twilight events and particularly this time of year where they can incorporate their Christmas party,” he said. “We just need the weather gods to smile favourably upon us.”
Last year the event was called off after three races when storms threatened to unleash thunder, lightning and rain on the Warrnambool Racecourse.
This year the rain held off long enough for the ladies to parade their predominately locally-purchased outfits.
The winner of the fashions on the field was from Port Fairy.
Leonie Boyd won top honours with Warrnambool’s Kerrie Downing runner-up.
Each took home $2000 worth of prizes including jewellery, flowers, wine, vouchers and accessories.
