Lee, 26, will use American Racer tyres instead of his regular Hoosiers when he rolls around for Max’s Race – a standalone feature on the Australian speedway calendar – on Saturday night at Premier Speedway.

WSS, which starts on Boxing Day and includes two races in Warrnambool, has signed a three-season deal with American Racer.

Lee, like many of his Australian counterparts, usually races on Hoosier tyres.

He has used American Racer products in his past two meetings as a way of adjusting.

“I feel different in the side wall with them,” Lee said.

“It’s something we’re trying to get used to prior to (WSS) kick off.

“We’ve had two races with them on and ran second and sixth.”

Lee is one of 51 nominations for Max’s Race – an annual event which honours speedway veteran Max Dumesny.

The star-studded field includes American-based Australian Kerry Madsen, now driving for Krikke Motorsport, and US racer Carson Macedo.

South-west contenders James McFadden, Jamie Veal and Corey McCullagh have also entered.

“Being at Warrnambool it entices everybody to come and I think that helps,” Lee said.

“It’s always good company at home and those other guys coming over will add a little bit more competition.

“It’s good preparation for WSS because you race those guys every night.”

Lee said WSS was a chance to test himself on a consistent basis.

“We’ll take it as it comes and put ourselves in good positions, make feature races and top 10s,” he said.

“But I am not upset if I don’t, we’re there to do our best and have a bit of fun.”

The Terang dairy farmer, who focuses on the machinery side, said predicted rainfall which could impact Max’s Race would be good for his livlihood.

“I am a farmer, I’d rather rain and everybody else would rather race,” he said.
