NARACOORTE-trained Victory Downs ticks a few boxes to win the $45,000 Port Fairy Cup over 1400 metres at Warrnambool on Thursday, according to his trainer Sue Jaensch.

Victory Downs resumes with an excellent first-up record and impressive performances over the distance for the underrated trainer.
“I’ve been happy with his work in the lead up to the race,” she said.
“He’s won two of his five runs when he’s resumed and has won three of his nine starts over the distance.
“I’ve got my fingers crossed we get a bit of rain as he loves soft to heavy tracks.
“He’s been a good horse for our stable, winning the Swan Hill Cup on two occasions.
“The Port Fairy Cup was just an ideal race for Victory Downs to kick-start this campaign.
“We’ll run him on Thursday and back him up in the Nhill Cup on Boxing Day.
“One of Victory Down’s part-owners Jim White wanted a runner in the Nhill Cup so that’s the path we look like going down at this stage.”
Warrnambool-trained runners appear to have a stronghold on the cup.
Aaron Purcell saddles up Guizot and Zebrinz while Jarrod McLean accepted with Simply Splashing and Multitude.
La Fleurette is Symon Wilde’s contender and Kednelly runs for Simon Ryan. Darren Weir has three runners – Superhard, Silentz and Broadway And First.
The Port Fairy Cup is race seven on the eight-event program and is to be run at 6.30pm.
