A post race veterinary examination revealed Swacadelic was found to have suffered cardiac arrhythmia for a third time in his racing career and the incident will now be referred to the Racing Victoria Veterinary Department.
Swacadelic’s trainer Aaron Purcell said a decision about the imported gallopers future will depend on the stewards.
“It’s the third time he’s suffered with cardiac arrhythmia,” Purcell said.
“It’s a shame because on his day he’s a very good horse as is shown by his form in some good races. I’m not sure what the stewards will say but I think they may say his racing career is over. We’ll be guided by what the stewards have to say. We’ll just let the dust settle for a day or two. The other runners put the pressure on early in the race and I think the pressure throws his heart out of rhythm. Swacadelic was in no discomfort after the race.”
The veterinary inspection also found Swacadelic was lame in the near foreleg.
Swacadelic won the Terang Cup in April this year before running fourth in the Warrnambool Cup.
Dal Harraild ran third in the Pakenham Cup for Ciaron Maher. Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace trained the opening winner Star Fall in a $80,000 three-year-old.
Meanwhile, Trap For Fools failed to win the $1 million Kingston Town Classic for Jarrod McLean at Ascot on Saturday.
