On Wednesday The Standard reported a former Port Fairy resident was furious after V/Line refused to serve a hot drink in her Keep-Cup.
Public Transport Minister Melissa Horne said they were allowed to be filled.
“I’ve asked the chief executive officer of Public Transport Victoria to work with V/Line to ensure passengers can get a coffee in a Keep-Cup on their journey,” she said.
“While the safety of passengers is always our top priority – we also want to make sure that we do everything can to meet the community’s standard.”
On Wednesday a V/Line spokesman said reusable cups were not accepted on buffet services for hygiene and food safety reasons.
“Passenger health and safety is really important to us, which is why we’re extra careful when it comes to food handling and safety on our trains,” he said.
“To prevent cross-contamination, we need to ensure the cups are clean before we place them on our coffee machines.”
It appears that is now not the case.
