The 21-year-old – who featured in the Hockeyroos’, the Australian women’s hockey team, silver medal team at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year – announced her decision over social media on Tuesday night.
Ratcliffe, who currently lives in Western Australia, decided to take three months off midway through the year with the intention to return but upon further deliberation she chose to extend her time away from the hockey field.
“In that time away I decided that a few months wasn’t enough for me to refresh and have since taken indefinite time off, with no specific date of return,” she wrote on an Instagram post.
“The last four years have been fun/educating, but the coolest thing has been my friends and teammates that I’ve stumbled upon along the way.
“Luckily I don’t have to leave them, because I don’t know who I’d be otherwise.
“For now I’m exploring some other opportunities that I’ve been lucky enough to have thrown my way, and am not at all saddened by my decision.”
The former Warrnambool and District Hockey Association star, who plays predominately as a striker, made her international debut for the Hockeyroos at 19 in a test series against Great Britain in Perth in February 2016.
Since her debut for the national team she has appeared in over 30 matches for the green and gold and scored nine goals.
