Port Campbell boutique brewer Sow and Piglets has installed a new production and canning line to make sure it is able to keep up beer supply over the Christmas period.

Head brewer Julian Widera said the upgrade would ensure it had fresh beer all the time.
“We are now able to make around 120,000 litres of beer per year,” he said.
A key feature of the new production line is 12 fermenting tanks that allow the brewery to produce six core beers with capacity to produce a variety of seasonal brew through the year.
The canning line, sourced from Canada, is the first of its type to be used in the south-west.
The cans have a large opening, where the whole top can be removed. This allows consumers to enjoy the full flavour of the beer, Mr Widera said.
“Up to 85 per cent of the flavour you experience comes through the smell, with a standard can or bottle you don’t receive this,” Mr Widera said. “You can also drink the beer faster.”
With the canning and labelling line capable of producing 24 cans per minute, the brewery is now able to package up to 250 cartons of beer on each production run.
The labelling machine will allow the brewery to offer bespoke labels for different events.
“With our customised labels, we can put peoples’ face or names on the label and wrap it around the can.”
An icon can also be added to the label that will allow a personalised video to be viewed when scanned with a phone app.
