The St Joseph’s Primary School student travels with his parents Kristi and Mick almost every second weekend throughout the season for competitions.
Xavier, 8, collected the nine-year-old boys’ Victorian number five plate at the BMX Victoria titles on Sunday, making the most of the familiar Jetty Flat course.
He will now turn his attention to the Australian titles in Shepparton in May 2019.
He will use the ACT titles in March as preparation.
In the meantime, the family will enjoy a break from travel.
The BMX season re-starts in January, giving Xavier a chance to concentrate on his Warrnambool Nippers program which begins in early December.
Xavier, who is nicknamed ‘Turbo’, has been racing since he was five when he started in the six-year-old sprockets class.
“My Dad looked on a website and said ‘do you want to do this sport?’ and I said yes,” he said.
“I enjoy racing other people and going fast.”
Xavier said his fifth-place finish at the Victorian titles, where he battled a field of 35 riders from around Australia, made him “really happy”.
It backed up his win at the Victorian state schools competition earlier this year.
