A record crowd of about 12,000 turned out for the Dunkeld Races on Saturday.
Dunkeld Racing Club manager Lisa Evans said the crowd was significantly up on last year’s turn out of 9600 people.
She said the number of entries in the male fashions on the field were up on previous years while the women’s entries were on a par with previous years.
Ms Evans said the crowd was really well behaved apart from one minor incident at the end of the day.
She said that at times the bar struggled to keep up with the demand from the significantly bigger crowd.
The racing club plans to increase the bar infrastructure for next year’s races to cater for the larger turnout.
“We’ll be bigger and better next year,” she said.
Two drivers have been caught in the police operation targeting driver behaviour over the weekend of the Dunkeld races.
A racegoer on his way to Dunkeld was caught doing 125km/h in a 100km/h zone about 9am on Saturday on Blackwood Road.
The driver will lose his licence for three months under new legislation, which came into effect earlier this month, that targets excessive speed.
A drunk-driver on his way home from the races was intercepted by the booze bus about 6pm on Saturday night on the Ballarat Road.
The driver blew .088 and his vehicle was impounded.
Acting Sergeant Michael Vaughan said crowd behaviour at the races was good with no arrests made.
