The 20-year-old played with Pomborneit in the South West Cricket Association last season and is enjoying his new surrounds.
Riches said while it was disappointing to lose to Mortlake on Saturday, he was happy with how the season was progressing.
“Camperdown only won three games last season and we have reached that already so we are heading in the right direction,” Riches said.
“We are a pretty young side so it’s been a good start to the season.”
A right-arm opening bowler, Riches has had a strong start to the season with 10 wickets from five rounds.
His batting has also been sound, with three scores over 30.
Riches said improving his batting was high on his agenda.
“I spent a lot of time in the pre-season working on my batting,” he said.
“The last few years I have hardly made a run. I really want to be able to contribute with the bat more and become an all-rounder.”
While he is making inroads, Riches knows more work is needed.
“I want to turn starts into bigger scores, that’s the aim.”
