Woodford won an epic battle at Jack Keane Oval in Koroit by two runs. Russells Creek batted first and made 6-108 from its 20 overs, with Woodford needing eight runs to win with just two balls remaining. Hank Schlaghecke was to be the man of the moment, hitting a six of the second last ball of the 20th over and a single off the last to tie the scores.
Captain Nick Butters and Matt Mountney then made 10 in the Eels super over.
It was Schlaghecke again who stepped up when needed, this time with the ball.
Russells Creek sent out batting heavyweights Cameron Williams and Shashan Silva to face its super over.
Schlaghecke was up for the challenge, conceding only eight runs and getting two wickets along the way.
Butters was thrilled with the victory.
“We were a little bit undermanned so it was a really good effort,” he said.
“The young blokes have been good all season and it was a good reward today.”
