Instead of pre-season training, McCluggage was pounding the pavement, training for the Melbourne half-marathon.
“I did it with a group of friends, it was pretty tough, it was a warm day,” McCluggage said.
“It was the second one I had ran, I did one about five years ago.”
McClugage started the season in division two before moving into the division one team for round four.
Scores of 56 and 30 has him in good form heading into today’s game against Wesley-CBC.
The Gators have just one win from six games but McCluggage believes they are not far away.
“We are doing a fair bit right but just little lapses are costing us,” he said.
“We are confident our best is right up there with everyone else, we just have to keep working hard.”
