Smith, who competed at the event for the second consecutive year, lost her second-round match to Finland’s Janika Antinmaa Antinmma in Bahrain on Thursday morning.
Gibb said the future remained bright for the 22-year-old.
“As I always say you win or you learn and today was an absolute cracker of a fight,” he said. "Alish fought like a warrior for the entire match," the club said.
“So much good stuff from today’s match, we know where the holes in our game are and we will fix them.
"We had our shining moments landing some good strikes and taking top position on the ground.
“But in the end the Finnish girl’s wrestling was too strong and that won her the day.”
Smith represents Warrnambool’s Spartan Mixed Martial Arts.
