Police were at busy intersections in Warrnambool today on the lookout for people using their phones while driving among other offences.

Senior Constable Corey Holland said that with summer around the corner, police were on watch to ensure drivers were sticking to the law.

“We’re targeting some high risk or high traffic intersections and we’re looking for offences like mobile phones, seat belts or basically any relevant offences,” he said.

“At this stage we’ve had a look at the intersection here, Liebig and Raglan. But we are targeting other intersections during the course of the day.”

Senior Constable Holland said the campaign is called Operation Oblivion and is not in response to any specific incidents. 

“It’s just an operation that’s been put together because the weather’s getting better, we’re starting to see more vehicles getting out and about and we’re able to do this sort of operation,” he said.
