The three-day event, which starts with pre-titles on Friday, will be a reward for the club’s members.
“It’s been 12 months of hard work and dedication by a lot of members and we’re just very excited to finally be here,” club president Daniel McKenna said.
“We’ve had a pretty bad winter. I know it’s been dry in other parts but we’ve been absolutely smashed down here this winter.
“We had nearly four months without a club event. The work that has gone into the track, it’s the club that does the work.
“It’s been a big team effort and we’ve got it looking an absolute treat and it’s a credit to everyone in the club.”
McKenna said the state titles had attracted more than 1100 entries with the main racing on Saturday and Sunday.
“We have Portland, Geelong and Ballarat members attending and from Warrnambool we have about 10 riders riding which is not a great deal but we are rebuilding the club at the minute and hopefully we’ll get back to some decent numbers in the future,” he said.
McKenna said his family loved being part of the BMX community.
“It is a challenging sport, it’s fast-paced, it’s action-packed,” he said.
“I know with my kids we tried other sports and we didn’t probably quite fit the mould. When we found BMX, the music’s roaring, the fans are roaring, it’s just an awesome atmosphere.
“We went from there and haven’t looked back.”
