The two-day Golf Australia-backed Warrnambool Senior Amateur teed off at the south-west course.
Golf Victoria’s Dylan Grandell said the number of players had risen on last year with the Port Fairy Senior Amateur to begin on Thursday.
“We are building a strong competition down here and the players all come up for a week to play in both tournaments,” he said.
Four women Di Robinson, Jane Barton, Sharon Kelson and Sue Rea, and three men Andrew Griffiths, John Wormald and Robert Gibson will fly the local flag.
Warrnambool acts as the final round of the Senior Women’s Order of Merit award. Port Fairy will be the final round of the men’s side of the competition.
Kooringal’s Ian McCleary currently leads the men’s order of merit ahead of Rossdale’s Geoff Charnley, while Buninyong’s Helen Pascoe, who is away in Queensland, has an unassailable lead in the women’s.
