Raymond Le Clezio, 41, of Geelong, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody until January 7 for a contest mention.
Police said the accused had an extensive and violent criminal history that included 38 assault-related charges, 13 of which were against the victim.
Magistrate Peter Mellas noted the victim had not made a formal statement but said there was a strong police case against the accused.
On August 21 Mr Clezio was at a caravan park in Hamilton with the victim.
The police allege the pair smoked cannabis inside a caravan and then began arguing for a couple of hours.
Witnesses allegedly heard banging and yelling from the caravan about 8pm. Mr Clezio was overheard shouting “I will f**** smash you”.
A concerned witness called police who attended the caravan park and spoke to the victim.
She said that inside the caravan Mr Clezio raised his fists, pushed her and threw a bong at her. Police said the victim was in tears and feared that Mr Clezio would try to kill her.
