Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said the man was arrested on Monday and extradited back to Victoria, where he was remanded to face Portland Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
“Members from Mount Gambier CIB, Portland CIU and Penola uniform police executed a warrant at a property in South Australia’s Tarpeena about 10am (South Australia time) on Monday,” he said.
“The man was brought before the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court where extradition proceedings were heard. He was then remanded in custody at Warrnambool.”
The man has been charged with 30 offences including burglary, theft and criminal damage.
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said 14 burglaries occurred between Portland and Nelson in 2010.
“These sort of charges are very serious and this comes as a reminder to anyone who is thinking of leaving the state when they have outstanding matters,” he said.
“We will continue to pursue you and we will catch up to you unexpectedly.”
Anyone with information should call Portland police on 5522 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
