South Warrnambool Community Association president Bill Hicks said the time capsule had been been buried in 1998 at the corner of Stanley and Stephens streets after the former Warrnambool South Primary School, which was located nearby, was sold to private interests.
“No one can remember what is in there,” Mr Hicks said.
He said the contents of the capsule would be revealed at a public meeting at 2pm, this Saturday, November 17, at the Warrnambool Beach Backpackers in Stanley Street.
Mr Hicks said the capsule would be reburied after its opening and the public would have the opportunity to contribute items to go into the capsule.
People wishing to contribute items can drop them off at 10 MacDonald Street prior to Saturday.
No one can remember what is in the time capsule.

Mr Hicks said Saturday’s meeting will also include a talk by Phil Carter, formerly of Warrnambool City Council, about the history behind South Warrnambool’s street names.
The South Warrnambool Community Association also earlier this year launched a brochure and walking map that details South Warrnambool’s rich history.
