Jake Flynn is one player who could be a big part of Terang’s future, according to captain-coach Liam Geary.
The 20-year-old was one of the club’s young players to impress at different stages in the opening five rounds of the South West season.
Flynn started the season on fire taking four wickets and falling just shy of a half-century in the first two matches against Cobden and Pomborneit.
Geary said his efforts with both the bat and ball had not gone unnoticed and that he was confident there would be more runs and wickets from him throughout the season.
"He had been the standout performance wise for us early, and in particular in our first few games led the way for us," he said.
"In the first game against Pombo he took four wickets and kept us in the game with the ball.
"Then he made 48 and was unlucky not to get a half-century and sort of got the run chase happening against Cobden which we eventually won.
"So he is one that has been a very talented junior and then maybe had a few seasons away from cricket as he was not that keen.
“Now he has come back this year more keen and is at the moment riding a wave of really good cricket.”
Terang had lost several key senior players over the past few seasons which had hurt the club.
Though that is where Geary turned to the club’s young brigade, and Flynn stood up to answer his captain’s call.
The talented batting all-rounder said he believed he had plenty to offer the side.
"With a few boys leaving it sort of left a few spots open so I have taken advantage of it,” he said.
"And this year is probably my first real go at it where I am fully committed I'd say.
"I probably got to training a bit more this year and started a bit earlier and started to focus a bit more.”
Flynn admitted knowing he had the full support of his captain-coach gave him and the other young players plenty of confidence.
"Yeah Laz is good he is a good captain and I had him at school as a teacher too," he said.
"He is a good bloke who is getting a lot out of the younger ones and doing a good job.”
Flynn made a solid start on Saturday before going out for just 13 as Terang made 170.
Unfortunately that score was not enough as Camperdown made the required runs in the 42nd over to defeat Terang.
