About 70 people attended the annual Heather Holcombe Memorial Day luncheon to raise funds for the palliative care ward at the town’s hospital.
Warrnambool’s Diane Lucas said the auction was always an exciting part of the fundraiser.
“It’s for a good cause, the auction is exciting,” she said.
“Last year I spent $700 on different things.”
The event in its 18th year commemorates Heather Holcombe who died of cancer in 2000.
Heather’s sister-in-law Julie Holcombe from Port Fairy said the funds would go towards a new scholarship program at the hospital.
“It’s not just giving equipment and donations and fitting out the room, we’re now going to be supporting training nurses each year,” she said.
Heather’s sister Bev Holcombe said the scholarship was a fabulous idea.
“I hope it goes well for the hospital and the person they train up using that scholarship,” she said.
