Warrnambool police Acting Sergeant Ben Timpson said despite the city not holding a public holiday for the iconic race, a strong police presence would be seen across the region.
He said police would be focusing on dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour, reminding people to celebrate safely and responsibly.
"Have fun and enjoy the day but don’t drink and drive,” he said.
“Be smart. Be safe. Drink and gamble responsibly.”
The state-wide road policing campaign Operation Furlong commenced on Friday and will run until 12am Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old Warrnambool man has spent the night in the cells after he handed himself in to police following a theft of a motor vehicle.
Acting Sergeant Timpson said the man allegedly stole a Holden Ute from a property in Nullawarre in October.
He said he handed himself into police on Monday afternoon and will appear in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
A 26-year-old Warrnambool woman is also being held in custody after she was arrested on three outstanding warrants.
Acting Sergeant Timpson said the woman was arrested at a Warrnambool property on Monday.
The warrants were issued after the woman failed to appear in court on damage and driving-related matters.
She will appear in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
