Opposition spokesman for Emergency Services, Brad Battin, claimed on Monday Mr Andrews would put Victorian’s safety and lives at risk to deliver on his secret deal with Peter Marshall and the United Firefighters Union.
He said reports attributed to Justice Bernard Teague indicated that the premier has lost control of Country Fire Authority dispute and plans to destroy the CFA and hand over control to the UFU boss Mr Marshall.
“Daniel Andrews has had to pay and will continue to pay for the position that is taken by the UFU but … it comes at a cost to the community.” Justice Teague was reported as saying.
Mr Battin said it was now time for Mr Andrews Andrews and Labor to listen.
He said when the chair of the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfire Royal Commission was concerned for community safety due to ‘veto powers’ going to the union and the Labor Government’s plan to tear apart the CFA, we should all listen.
“Daniel Andrews’ war on volunteers has put Victoria at risk this fire season, he has not only lost control, but has confirmed he will hand control of the fire services directly to the Union," he said.
"The Liberal Nationals will get back in control of the CFA dispute and protect our firefighters who risk their lives to keep us safe. Unlike Daniel Andrews I will not discriminate between career and volunteer firefighters," he said.
Liberal candidate for South West Coast, Roma Britnell, said Justice League's comment added fuel to the fire.
“Mr Teague is yet another voice who has raised concerns about Daniel Andrews plans to carve up our fire services," she said..
“The Liberal Nationals remain 100 percent committed to ensuring the rights of volunteer firefighters are protected and that we have a fire service that keeps Victorian’s safe," she said.
Mr Battin said that as Victoria headed towards summer, authorities warned this year could be the worst fire season since Black Saturday, with a large amount of fire load in bushfire-prone areas across Victoria.
He said the war against the CFA has gone on for years, and Daniel Andrews has confirmed if re-elected, he will continue to disrespect volunteers to pay back the union for their 2014 campaign efforts.
The opposition emergency services spokesman said that Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals will get back in control of the CFA dispute and protect the rights of our hardworking firefighters.
He said Daniel Andrews and Labor had lost control of the CFA dispute, allowing cancer rights for firefighters to be used by his government as a political tool.
A Liberal Nationals government will introduce a Presumptive Legislation Bill in the first parliamentary sitting week of 2019, if elected this November. The bill will ensure all career and volunteer firefighters have fair and timely access to cancer compensation.
Each and every day, our CFA volunteers leave their families to fight fires, saves lives and keep us safe. The Liberal Nationals will protect those who protect us, he said.
