Dropping a puzzle into a wheelie bin this month might change Christmas for a south-west child, says Glenys Phillpot.

As the Beyond the Bell Warrnambool Local Action Group chair, Mrs Phillpot is urging the community to donate and make a difference this festive season.
“Christmas is a time for giving, generosity and nurturing family,” she said.
“We want to make sure every kid has something to open at Christmas and something to use or do with the family encourages connection.”
Her words come after The Standard and Wannon Water volunteered to be the collection point for this month’s ‘Donate for the Kids’ drive.
Items such as jigsaw puzzles, card games, pencils, colouring books, board games and books can be dropped into the brightly coloured bins in the foyer of both sites during the month of November.
The items will be collected by South West TAFE’s Young Parents VCAL students in the first week of December.
“These items will greatly help our local school children feel like they belong to their local school community and help them be ready to learn at the start of every school day,” Mrs Phillpot said.
Donated items will be collated into hampers distributed by Food Share between December 16 and 21.
Warrnambool and District Food Share executive officer Dede Friebe said Christmas was a time of greater need in his industry.
“We’ll put out 150 packages in the week before Christmas,” he said.
“We really want each parcel to have one of these items so kids can enjoy time with their families.”
Donations can also be made directly to the Beyond the Bell initiative.
