‘Unspoken’ uses performance and installation art to look at the lighter side of ageing, and how people in their senior years can stay in charge of their future.
It aims to encourage people to discuss their thoughts about their own advanced care wishes.
Corangamite mayor Jo Beard said the show had received rave reviews around Victoria and was the headline act at Melbourne’s Town Hall during this year’s Seniors Week.
“This is a great opportunity to plan for something that’s an inevitable part of life,” Cr Beard said.
“It’s one less thing for the family to worry about. People often have to make decisions on the fly when they’re emotionally vulnerable,” she said.
Ms Beard said the performance was a gentle way to start people thinking about how their values and beliefs could be respected when they might not be able to explain it for themselves.
Live Well Project Worker Becky Nevin Berger said the performance was a celebration of the work the community had done through the Live Well project.
“The goal of Corangamite Shire’s Age-friendly Communities Project ‘Live Well’ is to shine a light on social connection through life-long learning, physical activity, the arts and volunteering so that individuals live well and communities become more age-friendly,” she said.
“Bringing this show to Corangamite allows people to become informed through arts and humour. It truly is about lifelong learning.”
“We are seeking volunteers to help present this event. Volunteers will attend a workshop with the Council of the Ageing, which is presenting the show, along with The Health Issues Centre,” Ms Nevin Berger said.
The November 13 presentation of ‘Unspoken: what will become of me’ will open at 1 pm for a 1:30 pm start, finishing about 4:30 pm. It will include afternoon tea.
