Starr, who was McDonald’s open division coach at Hamilton and at the state titles this season, said she was “extremely proud” of the emerging goalie’s achievement.
McDonald has been named in the 26-player squad which is set to again be cut back in the coming weeks.
"She is the kind of player you just love to coach," she said.
"She has worked so hard this year and it’s been great to see her take the opportunities like playing interleague and state titles.
"Then she committed to the extra training and weekends of games, so it is really wonderful that she's being rewarded for it."
McDonald is believed to now be on the radar of several Victorian Netball League clubs following her strong performances at interleague and the state titles.
