“I’m extremely excited,” Steel said. “This is the first time I have played at a festival of this calibre.”
Steel won the opening spot after being named the best regional artist in Victoria by Triple J Unearthed. She has two songs currently on rotation with the station, including her single “Fever”.
Blending her big, soulful voice with contemporary sounds, Ms Steel said her set will be uplifting and energetic.
“I bring in so many different kinds of music which has created my different style,” she said.
“My biggest influence is Aretha Frankin in terms of her singing, but then bring in the modern pop sound.”
Patrons will see Steel singing with a full band, but leaving her guitar and piano out of the performance.
“I’m a bit of a dramatic performer and I really like to use the stage,” Steel said. “No instruments for this performance, just lots of dancing instead”.
Sharing the stage with her favorite artists such as Courtney Barnett and Dan Sultan will be a highlight for Ms Steel.
Steel will open the Queenscliff Music Festival at 5.30pm on November 23.
