The popular agricultural, pastoral and horticultural event will be held on Saturday at the town’s showgrounds.
In keeping with tradition event organisers have worked to maintain a family-focus for the event while staying true to its agricultural roots. Show assistant secretary Jenny McLean said this year’s event promises an array of activities for all members of the family.
“We’ve got 13 rides in this year’s show,” she said.
“And we’ve put operators through their tests to make sure they’re all suitable for the kids.
“We’re definitely all about the families.
“I think it’s one day in a small community you can see families come together. It’s a chance for families to all be together and I think that’s fantastic.”
Mrs McLean said this year’s highlights included a circus show, puppeteers, magicians, dog tricks, a bucking bull and old engines.
“Of course we’ll have the traditional cattle, horses and the like but we also have some new stall holders and plenty of food,” she said.

“We’re expecting very good entries in our horse section, and our junior jumping. We have wonderful entries in the photography and that’s always been worth coming to see. “The ride wristband is back for $20 this year too and we’ve worked hard to keep the gate fee to a reasonable price.”
Mrs McLean said cash injections had been responsible for securing the show’s future.
“In the last hand full of years we’ve been fortunate the Folk Festival now use us as part of their camping,” she said.
“It is this money that has really injected a reasonable amount into our little show committee so that we can now do more things. We can now afford to pay for all of our rides.
“We’ve also been doing some improvements to our buildings,” she said. “And more are in the planning.”
The final hope for the day, Mrs McLean said, was for the weather.
“We’re hoping we’re going to have good weather,” she said. “As you know over the years we’ve had some foul days but there’s still plenty to see even if it is on the blustery side.”
Port Fairy Show, Saturday November 3, gates open from 8am to 4pm.
