This year’s one-day format for the Warrnambool show’s sheep competition was a success, attracting about 100 entries. A Southdown Ram from first time Warrnambool Show exhibitor Ned Nagorcka, "Nedelle Downs" Hawkesdale, took out the Kevin Ludeman Memorial All Breeds Sheep of the Show title. Mr Nagorcka made his debut at the sheep competition with five 18-month-old Southdown rams. Poll Dorsets were the feature breed with four exhibitors. There was also strong support in the Romney and Southdown sections with four exhibitors in each of those breeds. The judges were Alistair Sutherland (Poll Dorsets), Doug Deppeler (short wools) and Michael Deppeler (long wools). Results were - Cheviot: Champion Ram, Ewe & Group: Wilkinson, "Wirreanda" Wangoom. English Leicester: Champion Ram, Ewe & Group: Taylor "Koenarl" Timboon. Poll Dorset: Champion Ram, Price, "Moora Hills" Broadwater Reserve Ram: McCrae, "Olangolah" Hawkesdale Ram Lamb: McCrae, Champion Ewe: McCrae; Reserve Ewe: Price Ewe Lamb: Price Sheep of Breed: Price, "Moora Hills" Broadwater Lamb of Breed: Price, "Moora Hills" Broadwater Romney: Champion Ram, Ewe & Group, McDonald & Brooks, "Grassbank" Grassmere Brewer Memorial Supreme Romney Exhibit: McDonald & Brooks (Ram) Southdown: Champion Ram, Nagorcka , "Nedelle Downs" Hawkesdale Champion Ewe & Group: Thomas, "Silk" Bulart South Suffolk: Champion Ram, Ewe & Group, Shalders, "Willow Drive" Grassmere White Suffolk: Champion Ram, Ewe & Group, Malseed, "The Ranch" Tyrendarra Interbreed Awards – Short Wool Group: Thomas, (Southdown) Long Wool Group: McDonald & Brooks ( Romney). Short Wool Sheep: Nagorcka, (Southdown Ram) Long Wool Sheep: Taylor, (English Leicester Ram) All Breeds Group: Thomas, "Silk" Bulart All Breeds Sheep: Nagorcka, (Southdown Ram). More than 60 fleeces of high quality were entered in he Warrnambool Show’s fleece competition. Results are: Best Merino Fleece, Most valuable Merino fleece (emv $173) and Champion Fleece of Show, Richard Beggs "Nareeb Nareeb" Glenthompson. Reserve Fleece of Show: Don Kosch Best Fleece other than Merino & Most Valuable Fleece (emv $70): Ross & Robyn Alexander, Berrybank Most Successful Fleece Exhibitor & Show Perpetual Shield: Roger Wilkinson, Wangoom. Heaviest Romney Fleece of the Show: McDonald & Brooks, Grassmere.
