McLaren was trackside to watch the Darren Weir trained Humidor, who he part-owns, run a brave third behind Winx in the $5 million race.
“She’s just a freak,” McLaren said.
“Winx is the best horse that I’ve seen. Winx just breaks their hearts. Humidor was gallant in running third but we were not good enough. It’s the fourth time we’ve raced against Winx and she’s just too good for us.”
Humidor took his stake earnings to more than $3.9 million with his third placing.
His Warrnambool stablemate Kings Will Dream suffered a fractured pelvis in the early stages of the race and never finished the 2040 metre event.
Trap For Fools, trained by Jarrod McLean ran second behind Ventura Storm in the $500,000 Moonee Valley Cup over 2500 metres. Cliff’s Edge, who is trained at Weir’s Warrnambool satellite stable won the $200,000 Crystal Mile.
