Organiser John Clements said last year’s inaugural event attracted 200 people and he expected similar numbers this year. “If you know a fisherman, they’ve got more fishing rods, lures and reels they don’t use,” Mr Clements said. “A lot of them just buy compulsively. It’s like when a woman goes into a dress or a shoe shop, they just can’t help themselves.”
He said last year’s was the first of its kind in Australia.
Mr Clements is expecting between 30 and 50 stalls and said there had been lots of interest leading up to the swap meet.
“It’s for getting rid of everything from a boat or a fishing rod or a lure you’ve got sitting around the shed and then people bring collectibles and antique fishing gear to sell too.
“People will pick up bargains. There’ll be even some brand new stuff for five or 10 dollars.”
Stalls are $30 each and entry is $2. There will be a barbecue and drinks available with proceeds going to Rural Aid to help drought affected farmers. He said stall holders kept the profits they made on the day.
It’s on at the Lake Purrumbete Holiday Park from 10am to 4pm. Stall holders can register on the day from 8am and 10am. Tables available or they can bring their own.
