The Koroit player has joined the Western District Bowls Club’s top-grade Tuesday pennant side for the 2018-19 season, citing work commitments for the switch from Saturday competition.
Daly, 52, runs Daly’s IGA.
“I have some outside commitments on weekends with the new supermarket at Koroit and Tuesday pennant is a good fit now that it’s open pennant,” he said.
“Men and women are welcome to play so it’s just a better fit at the moment.
“I enjoy it. I am skipping in the division one team, which is new for me, and I have three great girls (playing) underneath me who are playing well.”
Father-of-two Daly has played lawn bowls for almost a decade.
He is now Koroit’s communications officer.
“I used to play a bit of tennis and certainly love golf but lawn bowls is just a good fit on a Saturday,” he said.
“Nine or 10 years ago I had a young family, so it was just a good fit and it’s a really social game and I’ve met a lot great people, men and women, over that 10 years.”
Daly, who played for Koroit Orange against City Memorial Green on Tuesday, is pleased with Koroit’s onfield efforts but is equally as excited about the club’s off-field position.
He said the Victoria Park-based club was determined to enhance its facilities to help it entice more players in coming seasons.
“The club is situated reasonably well. Off the field, the club is going super with a really tight board and loyal members,” Daly said.
“We’ve just received a $280,000 grant to upgrade our facilities at Koroit which is the first stage of upgrading toilets and change rooms and importantly getting some disability access into the club which it’s needed for 10 or 20 years.
“That should roll out at the end of this pennant (season), so in the middle of next year hopefully we’ll get a kick-start on that.
“We are actively seeking further money to upgrade inside the clubrooms and inside the kitchen so it’s going really good.”
