Best, 16, shot a round of 77 to tie with Barwon golfer Thomas Hanson and send the Craig Spence Cup into extra holes at Colac on Sunday.
“I was happy with the way I hit the ball but my putting let me down a lot,” he said. “I was a little bit nervous (coming into the playoff) but I was confident at the same time. I had about an eight-foot putt for par to extend the playoff and I made that then on the next hole I had a difficult chip and managed to get it close.”
Best treasured the moment he received the cup.
“It was an honour receiving the trophy from Craig Spence given that he grew up in a similar town to Warrnambool and went on to win the Australian Masters,” he said.
Fellow south-west golfers Tayne Perry (B grade nett) and Nyle Gurry (boys stableford) also secured wins.
