GROUP one-winning mare Aloisia showed another feature race victory is within her grasp for Ciaron Maher following a third placing in the Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Aloisia, having her second run from a break, made good ground over the concluding stages of the 1400-metre race before being defeated by Shumookh and Invinciblla.
Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, will now set Aloisia for the $500,000 Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington on November 3.
“The Empire Rose has been the race we’ve targeted Aloisia at for the spring and she showed she’s on track,” Maher said. “She’ll appreciate the 1600 metres at Flemington. I’ve been very happy with both her runs in this campaign and I’m confident she’ll run well in the Empire Rose.”

Imported galloper Mask Of Time gave the Maher-Eustace stable half a victory when he dead-heated for first in the Coongy Cup.
“It’s good to get a win with Mask Of Time even if it’s a dead-heat,” Maher said. “The key for the improvement in Mask Of Time had to do with the give in the track. He appreciates soft going. I’m not sure where his next race will be but I’m hoping it’s on a track with give in it.”
Yulong January, Maher’s other big chance, ran second in a race for three year olds.
