The Port Fairy cricketer is also a teacher at Allansford and District Primary School.
With the Pirates up against Allansford in a Warrnambool and District Cricket Association round three one-day game on Saturday, Dwyer has had to withstand some friendly sledging throughout the week.
”Allansford is a very community-orientated place so it is pretty parochial,” Dwyer said.
“No doubt I will cop some ribbing if the result doesn’t go our way on Saturday.”
Dwyer will take a rich vein of form into the game against the Gators.
Last week, the right-arm quick finished with figures of 5-32 in the Pirates’ win over Nestles.
It was Port Fairy’s second win from its first two outings this season.
Dwyer said a solid pre-season had helped the Pirates begin the season at a rate of knots.
“We have had really good numbers at training and that certainly helps build momentum,” Dwyer said.
“There is a bit of a mantra around the club this year to be positive and enjoy our cricket.
“It’s a very supportive environment at the club at the moment, it feels like everyone has got each other’s back.
“Aaron Williams is a really good leader and has the respect of everyone at the club.”
Dwyer’s day out against Nestles was the second five-wicket haul of his division one career.
The first came in 2016-17 when he knocked over Dennington, taking 5-22.
The 27-year-old has played all his cricket at Port Fairy, his senior career spent between time in division one and two.
“I had a bit of a side strain last year, that’s probably a side effect of being a fast bowler and being lightly built,” he said.
“The injury meant I was back and forward between division one and two.”
He said Port Fairy was keen for redemption after missing out on post-season action in 2017-18.
“All three of our senior teams missed finals last year so that stung a bit,” Dwyer said.
“There is a strong drive to get back onto the finals stage, we have strong expectations internally to have success across the club.”
