Some of the nation’s best brass players performed for school children on Friday to kick off the 29th Port Fairy Spring Music Festival.

The principal players from the Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney symphony orchestras combined to form the Australian Brass Quintet for the Reardon Theatre concert.
Festival artistic director Iain Grandage said it was an amazing opportunity for the 500 youngsters. “They’re the very best brass players in the country,” Mr Grandage said.
Port Fairy Consolidated School principal Kath Tanner said the students were very fortunate to attend and were excited to see the musicians perform live. “These opportunities broaden their understanding of how music is created and can inspire them to learn an instrument,” she said.
The festival officially opened on Friday night with a performance by Lior titled Compassion. Saturday’s highlights include guitar playing brothers Leonard and Slava Grigoryan, world-renowned Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi and vocalist and pianist Megan Washington.
