Lachlan Hiscock, 19, of Shilcock Street, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to theft, breaching bail and driving while disqualified. He was placed on another community corrections order with conditions he complete 50 hours of community work.

Lawyer Amanda Chambers said her client had spent five days in the cells with nine adult prisoners – an experience Hiscock said was not enjoyable. 

On September 24 police intercepted a gold coloured sedan driven by Hiscock in Portland. 

Checks revealed his licence was disqualified and the vehicle was unregistered. He was arrested and bailed to appear in court at a later date. 

Then on October 4 Hiscock attended the Hamilton Golf Club about 12pm and asked to play nine holes and hired a golf cart. 

A staff member organised the cart before Hiscock drove it out of the golf club and onto Rippon Road, where he picked up a female and continued to drive towards his home. 

Police said another staff member was travelling to work when she noticed Hiscock and the female driving the cart on the road. The owner contacted police. 

Hiscock was arrested at his home about 6pm. He was interviewed at Hamilton police station but denied the theft, stating that he picked up a friend but then returned the cart to the club. 

Hamilton police Sergeant Gavin Blair said the cart was recovered on Sunday.

"It has been returned to its owner," he said.

"There was minimal damage."

He thanked the public for their assistance in locating the golf cart.
