Michelle Risk, a former Warrnambool College student, has been a paramedic for almost 10 years and will feature in the Channel 9 series Paramedics.
Ms Risk, an advanced life support paramedic, said for people watching at home the show would be like being on a ride with her and her partner.
“Part of our job is problem solving and it may not be saving a life but it will be making someone’s day a little bit better,” she said.
“I love the variety of the job, so for me being stuck in an office doing the same thing day in and day out just didn’t appeal to me.
“(We’re) getting out and seeing new things everyday and meeting different people.
“We go to private residences, we go to office spaces, we go to sporting grounds. You don’t know what the day is going to bring.
“(There’s also) the challenge that the job brings with it. Because you can imagine some pretty high stress situations and some logistical challenges we have to deal with.
“But also the main thing is being able to make a difference in someone’s life or just a difference in their day. It’s pretty rewarding and it’s a pretty unique job in that way.”
Ms Risk, who still has family in Warrnambool, said paramedics were lucky to have strong support from the majority of the community and the show would help give people a better understanding of their everyday work.
“The unique thing is it shows it from our perspective of human beings being paramedics,” she said.
“It shows not necessarily the medical side but it gives you an insight into our thoughts and feelings about the job. It’s like being on a ride along with us.
“I’m excited because for me this has been a long time coming. I’m actually really excited to see it come to fruition.”
Paramedics airs on Thursday at 8.30pm.
