The Warrnambool Bowls Association hit the green for its season opener on Saturday, which was the start of Lee’s 57^th season.

Lee said his passion for the sport started when he was a little boy watching his father play.

At age 26 he himself started playing bowls and 57 seasons later he said he had no plans of giving it away anytime soon.

"I hope I can just keep going,” he said.

“I am 82 now and I hope I can just keep going playing bowls

“I am playing second and I am loving it so I want to keep going as long as I can.

“I am not going to give it up unless something happens to me.”

In what has been an illustrious career, the Terang stalwart has claimed 25 championships and finished runner-up on nine occasions.

The 82-year-old claimed there was no real secret behind his success.

But he was quick to rule out one suggestion when asked.

"Just practice and practice and I just got better and better," he said.

"Oh no, never had a beer before I play or at afternoon tea time, never.”

It was not Lee or Terang Green’s day as it suffered a heavy loss to Warrnambool Blue, going down 105-69.

The Terang champion was the first to admit that his team did not perform as it wanted to in the opening round.

Though Lee was confident his side would turn its form around next week.

"Not our rink anyway, we were struggling a bit,” he said.

“But we will get better.”

Port Fairy Red started its campaign with a comprehensive 36-shot victory against Timboon Gold.

It was a much closer contest between Koroit Blue and City Red with Koroit getting home by just six shots.

Dennington Red was forced to work for its win against City Gold, but it prevailed in the end with the score reading 98-84.

And in the final match of the round Warrnambool Gold recorded a convincing 49-shot win against Mortlake Blue.
