SUNDAY
Performance: Everyone loves a good pub singalong, and the organiser of a new community session says the more people who join in, the merrier it will be.
The first Koroit Pub Singers event will be held on Sunday at Mickey Bourke’s Koroit Hotel and everyone’s invited.
Organiser Kate Dobson said the singalong was focused on enjoyment and bringing people together, whether they could sing well or not.
“We're confident that there are plenty of people out there who love to sing in the shower or on a road trip who'd love to join us,” Mrs Dobson said.
“You definitely don't need to be a good singer to join in, just come along and we'll split the attendees into groups, teach some harmonies and sing.”
She said fellow organisers and singers Cath O'Brien and Louise Ryan would lead the sessions.
“There is no experience required,” Mrs Dobson said.
“It is about having fun and being an inclusive and judgement-free zone.
“Our motivation for establishing the group is to provide an opportunity for people who aren't necessarily trained singers to get out and sing.”
On Sunday, attendees will learn the Hunters and Collectors iconic ballad Throw Your Arms Around Me, with various songs to be sung at future sessions.
“We’ve picked the song this month but we’re happy to take input about which songs they’d like to sing,” Mrs Dobson said.
It’s on from 3-5pm. Entry is by gold coin donation.
