Dunn, who will work alongside recommitted assistant coach Hamish Waldron, believes the Kangaroos can take leaps in the Hampden league competition in 2019.

“We feel the club is heading in the right direction and there’s an opportunity to try and take it another step and hopefully get us into finals next year,” he said.

“The experience we brought in last year helped develop the rest of the group as well. There was a change in structure. We brought talls in this year and we were small and inexperienced in previous years.”

Dunn, a father to Phoebe, 11, and Jobe, 8, said he had unfinished business at the Kangaroos.

“I love being around the club. There’s good support and I enjoy the playing group and feel I’ve built relationships with them,” he said.

“I started talking to my wife (Georgie) mid-year (about signing on again) and she supported me and my kids love being around the football club.”
