Jade Laws, of no fixed address, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court. He was remanded in custody until October 15.
Mr Laws told the court that he should be bailed because he had a medical condition that required daily doctor visits and that he needed to look after his pregnant partner.
He said if released, he would have stable conditions. But Warrnambool police Senior Constable Brett Thornton said that Mr Laws was staying with a man who had an extensive criminal history. He said police feared Mr Laws would continue to offend.
On September 20, Mr Laws was intercepted by police driving on Koroit Street in Warrnambool about 4pm.
Senior Constable Thornton said checks revealed the car had been stolen during a burglary at a Cape Schanck property, on the Mornington Peninsula, between August 28 and September 1. He said the vehicle was stolen and the house was broken into.
Police are investigating the burglary.
