The CEO of the racing club said he doesn’t actually know too many others who back West Coast.
Even his workplace has plenty of Magpies supporters, and on Saturday will head down to the grand final with a carload of Collingwood fans.
Downs said he jumped on the West Coast bandwagon when he was about three.
“Mum was Geelong and dad was Essendon and I wanted to pick someone different.,” he said.
“I assume when I was three or four West Coast must have been doing pretty well
“Since then I’ve been very loyal.
“I was born in Hamilton and I didn’t know too many (Eagles fans) there either,” he said.
Downs has grand final tickets and plans on travelling to the game with a group of Collingwood supporters.
“So it could be ugly,” he said.
“We’re going to an after party together so one of us will be miserable and the other four will be happy, or the other way around.
“I actually went to the 2015 grand final against Hawthorn and we got absolutely thumped and it was pretty painful. Hopefully not going through that again.”
On Tuesday he caught up with former West Coast player David Haynes who just happened to be doing some work at the racecourse.
Haynes now runs his own tiling business in Warrnambool, but in 1999 he was drafted to West Coast where he played 46 games during his four-year stint before moving to the Geelong Cats for two years.
Haynes has no plans to go to the grand final at this stage but would like to see the Eagles go well on Saturday.
