McKenize and Nick Couch will serve as assistant coaches under Bloods coach Michael Sargeant.
The news comes on the back of McKenzie winning the 2018 Terang Mortlake senior football best and fairest.
In his first year back at the club since playing 79 games for Melbourne and two seasons at North Adelaide, McKenzie claimed the Bloods top award with Jess Budarick runner-up and Brodie Carroll third.
It was the second senior best and fairest of McKenzie’s career, having won North Adelaide’s top award in 2016
McKenzie said it was a solid season.
“I was reasonably consistent without setting the world on fire,” McKenzie said.
“My body held up well and it was really enjoyable. It’s a good standard of football and an even competition so you go into every game with both teams a chance.”
The Bloods finished with seven wins, leaving them short of a finals berth.
McKenzie and Couch were among a number of players who returned to the club this season after long absences.
“It was disappointing to miss the finals but we never expected everything to happen overnight” he said.
“There was a big turnover of players from the year before. Another year of playing and training together will really help.
“I’m looking forward to dipping my toes into coaching, I still live in Melbourne and we have other boys down there and in Geelong so I will do a bit of work from that end.”
The club’s open grade netball best-and-fairest award was won by Jacqui Arundell with Brooke Hoare and Libby Moloney joint runners-up.
